Player Development

Where players get better.

Every Michigan Magic practice is designed with intention. Every drill has a purpose. Every player is coached, not just evaluated.

Pillar 01

Basketball Skills

Footwork, shooting mechanics, ball-handling, passing, defense, and finishing — built daily until they become automatic. We don't cut corners on fundamentals.

02
Pillar 02

Character Development

Accountability, work ethic, respect, and integrity. We coach the person, not just the player. These traits win in basketball and in life.

03
Pillar 03

Confidence Building

Confidence is earned through reps, preparation, and trust. We put players in positions to succeed, then challenge them to grow from there.

04
Pillar 04

Leadership Development

We develop leaders on and off the floor. Communication, example, accountability, and decision making are coached just like skill work.

05
Pillar 05

Communication Skills

Players who talk on defense win. Verbal communication, eye contact, and clear calls are coached daily until they become habits.

Pillar 06

High School Preparation

Speed, physicality, terminology, and expectations — our players enter high school prepared, confident, and ready to compete.

How We Develop Players

The Michigan Magic approach.

How practices work

Every practice follows a structured plan: warm-up, skill work, competitive drills, scrimmage, and review. Coaches arrive with a purpose and leave with notes for the next session.

How players improve

Through deliberate reps, real-time coaching, video review, and honest feedback. Improvement is consistent because our standards are consistent.

How we measure success

Player growth. Skill development. Confidence. Effort. Team chemistry. Wins matter, but they are a byproduct of doing the right things consistently.

How growth is prioritized

We focus on each player's individual development within the team context. Every player matters. Every player has a role. Every player gets coached.
